Egypt Condemns Attacks on Aid and Medical Facilities in Sudan

Cairo: Egypt condemned repeated attacks on aid convoys and medical facilities in Sudan, including a drone strike on a World Food Programme (WFP) convoy in North Kordofan that killed one staff member and destroyed food aid for displaced families.

According to Kuwait News Agency, Egypt's Foreign Ministry issued a statement on Sunday highlighting another incident in North Kordofan that left 24 civilians dead. The ministry warned of the escalating targeting of humanitarian corridors and obstruction of relief efforts.

Egypt also condemned an attack on a medical facility in the Kordofan region that resulted in dozens of deaths and injuries, including among medical staff. The attack was deemed a grave violation of international humanitarian law, which protects civilians, health facilities, and humanitarian and medical workers.

The repeated violations are exacerbating Sudan's unprecedented humanitarian crisis, which is characterized by rising displacement and food insecurity. The statement emphasized the urgent need for aid to reach the Sudanese people without obstruction to alleviate suffering and help create conditions to halt escalation and restore stability.
