Cairo: Egypt's Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty emphasized the need for an expedited deployment of an international stability force in the Gaza Strip to oversee the enforcement of the ceasefire. During a joint press conference with his Bosnian counterpart, Elmedin Konakovic, in Cairo, Abdelatty highlighted their shared perspectives on both international and regional developments, including significant events unfolding in the Middle East.
According to Kuwait News Agency, the discussions prominently featured the Palestinian issue, underscoring it as a primary Arab concern. Abdelatty noted that the talks addressed the situation in Gaza and recent announcements by the US regarding the fulfillment of the UN Security Council Resolution No. 2803. He underscored the importance of adhering to the second phase of the Gaza ceasefire deal, which includes the withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza and the deployment of the international force, alongside efforts for early recovery and reconstruction in Gaza.
Abdelatty also mentioned that there was a consensus on the need for effective measures to stop violations by the Israeli occupation in the West Bank. The discussions extended to the dire situation in Sudan and the ongoing efforts to establish a humanitarian truce leading to a permanent ceasefire. Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt's commitment to maintaining Sudan's unity and preserving its state institutions.
The foreign ministers also exchanged views on the situations in Libya, Syria, Lebanon, Yemen, and developments in the West Balkans, in addition to the crisis in Ukraine. Bosnian Foreign Minister Elmedin Konakovic highlighted the significance of Egypt as a crucial partner to Bosnia and expressed hopes for ongoing cooperation across various fields. He stressed the importance of collaboration in rebuilding Palestine, particularly Gaza, and noted that despite the slim prospects for peace, they are on the right path and encouraging progress in the second phase.
