Cairo: Egypt has reiterated its call for Israel to withdraw from Gaza, advocating for the establishment of a Palestinian interim technocratic committee to govern the Strip alongside an international force. This position was communicated during a telephone conversation between Egypt's Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty and UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres, as reported by Egypt's Foreign Ministry.
According to Kuwait News Agency, the discussions between Abdelatty and Guterres focused on the latest developments in Gaza and the ongoing efforts to implement the second phase of US President Donald Trump's plan. Abdelatty emphasized the necessity of facilitating the full and secure delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza and creating favorable conditions for its early recovery and reconstruction.
The Egyptian Foreign Minister also conveyed President Abdelfattah Al-Sisi's appreciation to Guterres, praising the UN's comprehensive approach to addressing regional and international issues. Abdelatty reiterated Egypt's firm stance against actions that could compromise the geographic unity of Palestinian territories or sever the connection between the West Bank and Gaza. He also opposed any division of Gaza under any pretext.
On the topic of Sudan, Abdelatty highlighted the need for a humanitarian truce as a precursor to a comprehensive ceasefire, stressing the importance of upholding Sudan's sovereignty and territorial integrity. He called for safe havens and unrestricted humanitarian aid delivery for the Sudanese people, while condemning the severe violations against civilians in Al-Fashir and North Kordofan.
Regarding Yemen, Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt's unwavering support for its unity and territorial integrity, advocating for a reduction in violence and a political resolution through Yemeni-led dialogue. He emphasized that this approach aligns with the aspirations of the Yemeni people for peace and stability.
Abdelatty also addressed Israel's unilateral recognition of the "Somaliland region," condemning it as a violation of Somalia's sovereignty and international law. He reiterated Egypt's support for Somalia's unity and territorial integrity, warning that such actions could set a dangerous precedent threatening regional and international peace.
During the call, Guterres expressed his sincere greetings and appreciation to President Al-Sisi, acknowledging Egypt's crucial role in supporting regional stability amid ongoing crises.
