Cairo: Egyptian President Abdulfattah Al-Sisi and Spanish King Felipe VI have jointly voiced their strong opposition to the Israeli occupation's practices in the West Bank. Both leaders condemned the expansion of settlements and the potential annexation of more Palestinian territories, labeling these actions as clear violations of international law.
According to Kuwait News Agency, the announcement was made by Egyptian Presidency Spokesperson Ambassador Mohammad Al-Shennawi, following a meeting between the two leaders in Cairo. This visit marked King Felipe VI's first high-level trip to Egypt since the two nations elevated their relationship to a strategic partnership in February 2025.
Ambassador Al-Shennawi stated that the discussions between President Al-Sisi and King Felipe VI also included regional and international developments, alongside strategies to enhance bilateral relations across various sectors. President Al-Sisi lauded Spain for its support in establishing peace in the Middle East, recognizing the State of Palestine, and endorsing the UN General Assembly's two-state solution declaration.
Both leaders stressed the importance of building on the current momentum to deepen cooperation in areas such as transport, commerce, and archaeology. During the meeting, President Al-Sisi informed King Felipe VI about Egypt's efforts to secure a ceasefire in Gaza, to which King Felipe VI responded by highlighting the urgency of implementing a truce, releasing prisoners, and delivering aid to Gaza.
Furthermore, the leaders expressed their firm disapproval of any plans to displace Palestinians from their lands, cautioning that such actions could have detrimental effects on neighboring countries and Europe.
