Egypt and Algeria Advocate for Political Settlement and Dismantling Militias in Libya

Cairo: Egypt's Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty and Algerian Foreign Minister Ahmad Attaf have underscored the importance of a political resolution in Libya, emphasizing the dismantling of militias and the withdrawal of foreign forces and mercenaries. This was highlighted during a recent telephone conversation between the two officials, as reported by Egypt's Foreign Ministry. According to Kuwait News Agency, the ministers stressed the significance of respecting Libya's sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity. Additionally, Abdelatty extended condolences to Algeria over a tragic vehicle accident, expressing solidarity with the Algerian government and its people. The conversation also addressed the ongoing developments in the Gaza Strip. Both ministers reaffirmed their opposition to the Israeli occupation cabinet's decision to expand aggression in Gaza, viewing it as an act of escalation intended to solidify illegal occupation of Palestinian territories and perpetuate systematic genocide against unarmed Palestinians, in violation of international and humanitarian laws. The Israeli occupation policy, they stated, undermines Palestinians' rights to self-determination and the establishment of an independent state. The ministers agreed on the necessity of an immediate and comprehensive ceasefire, as well as ensuring the urgent and unconditional flow of relief and medical aid. Furthermore, the ministers called for an end to starvation and organized violence, which exacerbate the conflict and fuel extremism. Emphasizing the need for civilian protection, they reiterated their strong opposition to the Israeli settlement policy and illegal expansion into Palestinian territories, condemning these actions as serious violations of international law. The discussion also touched on bilateral cooperation between Egypt and Algeria. Both ministers expressed satisfaction with the progress in Egyptian-Algerian relations and agreed to continue enhancing cooperation across various fields.
