Kuwait City: An Amiri decree has been issued appointing Dr. Sabeeh Al-Mukhaizeem as the Minister of Electricity, Water, and Renewable Energy.
According to Kuwait News Agency, Dr. Al-Mukhaizeem was born in 1977 and has an extensive academic background. He obtained his Bachelor of Science in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Kuwait University in January 1999. He furthered his studies in the United States, earning a master's degree in Computer Science and Engineering from the University of California, San Diego, in March 2001. He completed his Master of Science in Electrical Engineering from Yale University in December 2003, followed by a Master of Philosophy in Electrical Engineering in December 2004, and concluded his academic journey with a PhD in Electrical Engineering in June 2007.
Dr. Al-Mukhaizeem has held various influential positions in Kuwait's education sector. He served as the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Higher Education from 2018 to 2023 and was the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Arabian Gulf University during the same period. He also chaired the Ministry of Higher Education's Scholarship Committee and the committee for equivalency of Post-Secondary degrees from 2018 to 2023.
In addition to these roles, he was the Acting Secretary-General of the Council of Public Universities from 2022 to 2023 and an Associate Professor in the Department of Computer Engineering at Kuwait University from 2012 to 2015. Dr. Al-Mukhaizeem was also a member of several governing bodies, including the Council of Public Universities, the Board of Trustees of the Kuwait Institute for Medical Specializations, and the Board of Directors of the National Authority for Quality Assurance and Accreditation, among others.
Dr. Al-Mukhaizeem's involvement in educational development is notable. He was a member of the Supreme Council of Education and a board member of the National Center for Education Development. He also served as the Director General of the National Center for Education Development and was a visiting faculty member at Yale University in 2009. Earlier in his career, he worked as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Engineering at Kuwait University from 2007 to 2012 and as a teaching assistant at both Yale University and the University of California, San Diego.
Throughout his career, Dr. Al-Mukhaizeem has been recognized for his contributions with several awards. These include the Excellence in Work Award from the Deanship of Admission and Registration at Kuwait University in 2012 and the Young Researcher Award from the College of Engineering and Petroleum at Kuwait University in 2010. He also holds two patents and has a substantial research portfolio, with 16 published studies in scientific journals and 31 research papers presented at conferences and specialized workshops.
