Death Toll Rises to 19 in South Korea After Heavy Rains

Seoul: Another person has been confirmed dead following last week's heavy rains and landslides in South Korea, bringing the total death toll to 19. Nine individuals remain missing, raising the total number of those dead or unaccounted for to 28, based on tentative data from the Interior Ministry. The casualties include 10 deaths in the southern county of Sancheong.

According to Kuwait News Agency, authorities have expedited recovery efforts, with approximately 3,000 of the 6,800 damaged buildings and facilities having undergone emergency restoration work. More than 14,000 people have sought shelter since the heavy rains began last Wednesday, with about 2,500 people yet to return to their homes.

The nation has been battered by torrential rains since last Wednesday, with Sancheong receiving an accumulated 793.5 millimeters of rain as of Sunday. The government has since lifted all heavy rain advisories and, on Sunday, downgraded the warning level from "serious" to "attention."
