Kuwait city: A senior Kuwaiti customs official affirmed Wednesday that Kuwait has become a regional leader in customs automation, positioning it to play a key role in advancing inter-Arab customs cooperation.
According to Kuwait News Agency, Acting Director of Air Cargo at the General Administration of Customs, Raed Al-Mathkour, highlighted Kuwait's significant progress in modernizing its customs systems over the years. Speaking on the sidelines of the 38th meeting of the Arab Customs Procedures and Information Committee, Al-Mathkour noted that Kuwait has shared its expertise with several Arab countries, including Egypt, which currently utilizes advanced automated systems developed in collaboration with a company working closely with Kuwaiti Customs.
He emphasized Kuwait's readiness to contribute to establishing a unified Arab customs platform aimed at enhancing trade exchange and facilitating cross-border movement. Regarding Kuwait's preparedness to strengthen trade with Arab states, Al-Mathkour stated that the country's capabilities are continuously improving.
Al-Mathkour pointed to statistics submitted to global bodies such as the World Customs Organization and the World Trade Organization, which reflect Kuwait's efficiency in customs operations. He added that Kuwaiti Customs is committed to infrastructure development, improving the business environment, and enhancing staff competencies.
Al-Mathkour mentioned that the committee's discussions centered on applying artificial intelligence in customs processes and learning from successful European experiences, notably in Sweden and Norway. He expressed hope that Arab efforts will mirror the progress made by Gulf Cooperation Council countries in building a unified customs system.
