Committed to Best Interest of Bangladesh: India After Sheikh Hasina’s Sentence

Kuwait city: India on Monday stated that it is committed to the best interest of the people of Bangladesh after International Crimes Tribunal of Bangladesh sentenced former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to death.

According to Kuwait News Agency, a statement from the Indian Ministry of External Affairs said that New Delhi has noted the verdict announced by the International Crimes Tribunal of Bangladesh concerning former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

"As a close neighbor, India remains committed to the best interests of the people of Bangladesh, including in peace, democracy, inclusion and stability in that country. We will always engage constructively with all stakeholders to that end," it added.

The Bangladesh's International Crimes Tribunal-1 sentenced Sheikh Hasina to death for crimes against humanity committed during the July-August 2024 uprising.

The Indian response came after Dhaka urged New Delhi to hand over Sheikh Hasina who has been living in New Delhi ever since she fled in wake of mass protests that toppled her government.
