Kuwait City: Yemen’s Defense Ministry on Sunday announced the death of one soldier and four others wounded, following clashes with Houthi militias at the extension of the Ma’rib province fronts, as attacks have been escalating in the oil-rich area.
According to Kuwait News Agency, the Ministry’s Media Center mentioned that government forces thwarted the militia’s attempts on the fronts of Raghwan and Madghal in the north and Al-Fulaiha and Balq in the south, by targeting their sources, where the infiltrated elements fled, leaving dead and wounded behind.
The statement added that “government forces successfully set an ambush” on the Houthis as they were attempting to reach military zones in Madghal, where fierce clashes commenced, resulting in many of the Houthi forces being killed or fleeing.
The Air Defense units were also successful in countering Houthi attempts on several fronts in the area, as intelligence monitoring groups dealt with Houthi attempts to plant mines and explosive devices on the front lines. It was also pointed out that Houthi militias continued to attack government forces’ positions with artillery shelling, tank shells, and Katyusha rockets, but were responded to directly by attackers and eliminated. In the past weeks, the militia has been attacking government forces’ positions in an area that extends for hundreds of kilometers with several Yemeni governorates involved, but the majority of the attacks were concentrated in Ma’rib, where most of the violent battles occurred in recent years as part of Houthi efforts to control oil and gas sources in Safer.
