BEIJING: Chinese President Xi Jinping on Wednesday affirmed support for the just cause of the Palestinian people and their struggle to restore their legitimate rights. In a message of congratulations to the UN conference marking the international day of solidarity with the Palestinian people, President Xi expressed his backing for granting full membership for Palestine in the United Nations. He also called for an international conference that should be "broader, more credible and effective" to address the Palestinian issue. According to Kuwait News Agency, the official Chinese news agency Xinhua quoted President Xi as stating that the Palestinian cause "is the core of the Middle East issues." He emphasized the importance of implementing relevant UN resolutions and called for an immediate ceasefire. President Xi stressed that the basic avenue for resolving the crisis lies in the two-state solution. This involves boosting the political settlement and establishing a Palestinian state with full sovereignty, with East Jerusalem as its capital, based on the 1967 borders.
