China to Impose Additional Tariffs on US Imports

Beijing: China announced Tuesday that it will impose additional tariffs of 10 to 15 percent on certain US imports, starting next Monday, in response to the US 10 percent tariffs imposed that came into effect today.

According to Kuwait News Agency, the Customs Tariff Commission of the State Council of China stated that a 15 percent tariff will be applied to chicken, wheat, corn, and cotton, while a 10 percent tariff will be imposed on many other food and products imported from the US.

The statement clarified that US goods shipped before March 10 and imported between March 10 and April 12 will not be subjected to the additional tariffs. The statement emphasized that Washington's unilateral tariffs harm the multilateral trading system, increase the burden on US consumers and companies, and undermine the foundations of economic and trade cooperation between the two countries.
