Beijing: China expressed "shock" and "disappointment" on Friday over the US move to sanction Palestinian Authority (PA) and Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) officials. The Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun addressed reporters during a press briefing, responding to the US sanction announced late Thursday, which accused PA and PLO officials of "undermining peace efforts".
According to Kuwait News Agency, Jiakun urged the international community, particularly the United States, to maintain a fair, just, and responsible stance. He emphasized the importance of implementing relevant UN resolutions and making active efforts to promote a proper resolution of the Palestinian question.
Jiakun highlighted that the Palestinian cause is a central issue in the Middle East, requiring international fairness and justice. He noted that the Palestinian question is currently at a critical historical juncture.
Furthermore, Jiakun reaffirmed China's support for the Palestinian people in their pursuit of restoring their legitimate rights and for the effective administration of all Palestinian territories, including Gaza and the West Bank, by the PA.
He also reiterated China's readiness to collaborate with the international community towards a comprehensive, just, and lasting settlement of the Palestinian cause, based on the two-state solution.
The US State Department announced on Thursday that it would impose visa restrictions on certain Palestinian officials, accusing them of "undermining peace and stability".
