Cameroon’s Incumbent President Biya Re-Elected

Rabat: Cameroon's incumbent president Paul Biya is expected to serve a new term in the top office after winning elections held last week, according to the national statistical committee.

According to Kuwait News Agency, the commission stated that Biya secured 53.66 percent of the votes. However, his political rival, Issa Tchiroma Bakary, refused to accept the poll results. The commission's statement revealed that Bakary garnered 35.19 percent of the ballots, followed by Cabral Libii with 3.41 percent and Bello Bouba Maigari with 2.45 percent.

Bakary has swiftly rejected the election results in an online blog, claiming that he actually won 54.8 percent of the ballots. This rejection has contributed to a state of anxiousness gripping the country. The constitutional council is expected to endorse the final results of the polls by October 27, adding to the anticipation surrounding the official announcement.
