Cairo, Ankara Underline UNSC Gaza Resolution Implementation

Johannesburg: Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty and his Turkish counterpart Hakan Fidan emphasized the importance of implementing the recent United Nations Security Council (UNSC) resolution concerning Gaza. This discussion occurred during a meeting between the two ministers on the sidelines of the G20 Summit.

According to Kuwait News Agency, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry released a statement on Sunday outlining the ministers' resolve to empower the international stabilization force in Gaza to fulfill its duties. They also reiterated support for Cairo's ongoing efforts to bolster the Sharm El-Sheikh Peace Agreement and the reconstruction of Gaza.

The meeting also touched on the outcomes of a recent joint planning committee meeting in Ankara, as well as the preparations for a planned visit by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to Egypt in 2026. The UNSC's Resolution 2803 (2025) authorizes a temporary international force to maintain peace in the Gaza Strip, aiming to prevent the resurgence of conflict in the region.

The resolution was passed with 13 votes in favor, while China and Russia, both permanent members of the UNSC, abstained.
