Kuwait city: The Cabinet, in its customary meeting on Tuesday, endorsed draft-decrees on the budgets of ministries, government agencies, and independent bodies for the fiscal year 2026/2027 and a decree-law amending the domestic violence law.
According to Kuwait News Agency, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs Shereeda Al-Mousherji highlighted that the Cabinet has referred the draft decrees for state institutions' budgets to His Highness the Amir for final approval. The Cabinet commended the Ministry of Finance for its diligent efforts in preparing the budgets, which will become effective on April 1, 2026, following the Amir's approval.
Additionally, the Cabinet approved a decree-law amending the existing domestic violence law from 2020, aimed at providing comprehensive protection for all family members against domestic violence. The Cabinet has forwarded this amendment to His Highness the Amir for approval.
The Cabinet also agreed on a decree-law concerning the dissolution of ministerial portfolios, authorizing a minister to cover another's portfolio, and the reshuffling of ministerial committees. Furthermore, numerous agreements and memoranda of understanding for cooperation with several countries were ratified and referred to His Highness the Amir.
In celebration of independence and liberation days, the Cabinet announced a public holiday on Wednesday, February 25, and Thursday, February 26, with normal work resuming on Sunday, March 1. Institutions with special nature can decide their holiday schedules while considering public interest.
The meeting commenced with His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Ahmad Al-Abdullah welcoming new ministers and expressing gratitude to those who served in the previous reshuffle. The Cabinet also praised the national operetta "Deerat Al-Khair," held at Bayan Palace Theater, attended by His Highness the Amir and other dignitaries as part of the national celebrations.
His Highness the Premier briefed the Cabinet on His Highness the Amir's visit to the Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences on its fiftieth anniversary. The Cabinet reviewed the recent visit of Bahraini Crown Prince and Prime Minister Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa to Kuwait and the outcomes of his meeting with His Highness the Amir.
The Cabinet discussed the results of the Kuwait Oil and Gas Exhibition and Conference and was informed about His Highness the Premier's participation in the World Government Summit in Dubai. It also noted the planned official visit of His Highness the Prime Minister to Germany for the 62nd Munich Security Conference and was briefed on recent diplomatic visits by Qatar and UAE officials.
The Cabinet addressed other agenda items, approving some and referring others for further study by ministerial committees. Lastly, it approved the minutes of the Supreme Committee for the Investigation of Kuwaiti Citizenship, which included decisions on citizenship loss, withdrawal, and revocation in accordance with Decree Law No. (15) of 1959 and its amendments.
