US President Joe Biden said Saturday that he will speak with Chinese President Xi Jinping “soon” and that he is “in the process” of making up his mind on lifting tariffs on China.
Speaking to reporters in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, Biden was asked if be made up his mind about tariffs, in which he replied “we’re in the process of doing that.” Asked again if he is lifting the tariffs, he replied “I’m in the process of making up my mind.” Last week, White House National Security Council Coordinator for Strategic Communications John Kirby told reporters that Biden “wants to make sure that if we have tariffs in place, that they’re serving our interests and the interest of the American people.” He stressed that Biden “wants to make sure that as he reviews the tariff regime that it’s meeting those needs. And I think he’s going to keep his mind open.”
