Bahrain Elected as Non-Permanent Member of UN Security Council

New York: Kuwaiti Foreign Minister Abdullah Al-Yahya extended his congratulations to Bahraini Foreign Minister Dr. Abdullatif Al-Zayani following Bahrain's election as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for the term 2026-2027. The announcement was made during a phone call between the two officials, highlighting the significance of Bahrain's new role on the international stage.

According to Kuwait News Agency, the UN General Assembly has elected five new non-permanent members of the Security Council. Alongside Bahrain, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Liberia, Latvia, and Colombia have also been selected to serve from January 1, 2026, to December 31, 2027. This election marks a pivotal moment for these nations as they prepare to contribute to global peace and security efforts.

In Mamana, a Kuwaiti official emphasized the importance of exchanging expertise at both Gulf and international levels to enhance legislations and laws concerning alternative penalties. This initiative is seen as a critical step towards modernizing legal frameworks and promoting justice reform.

In Makka, the Secretary-General of the Kuwait Red Crescent Society, Fahad Al-Mandil, announced that volunteers are set to provide support to Kuwaiti pilgrims during the Hajj season. The volunteers will offer humanitarian and emergency services, ensuring the comfort and safety of pilgrims during their religious journey.

Meanwhile, in Geneva, Major General Talal Al-Roumi, Chief of the Kuwait Fire Force, participated in the opening of the 8th session of the Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction. The session, taking place in Geneva, aims to address strategies and measures for mitigating disaster risks worldwide.
