Kuwait city: Nigerian authorities announced that nine people were killed and four others were injured during a targeted armed attack northeast of the country.
According to Kuwait News Agency, local authorities said that the attack occurred Sunday in Malam Fatori in the Borno State and suspected to be carried out by Boko Haram group gunmen.
They added that the attack resulted in the deaths of nine people and the injury of four others with varying degrees of severity. The targeted area is located near the border with Chad, approximately 270 kilometers from the state capital, Maiduguri, which has witnessed occasional armed attacks despite the federal government's promises to address the worsening security challenges.
Boko Haram has been active in northeastern Nigeria since 2009, engaging in an insurgency that has left more than 40,000 dead and displaced approximately two million people, with the violence spreading to neighboring countries such as Niger, Chad, and Cameroon, prompting the formation of a regional military force to confront the armed groups.
