Sydney: The Australian government has announced a new wave of sanctions targeting 44 individuals and entities associated with Russia's war economy, marking a significant move to hold Russia accountable for its ongoing actions in Ukraine. The sanctions are aimed at critical sectors such as defense, energy, and finance, with the intention of disrupting Russia's war funding capabilities. This initiative underscores Australia's commitment to working in concert with international allies, as highlighted by Foreign Minister Penny Wong on Wednesday.
According to Kuwait News Agency, Wong emphasized Australia's unwavering support for Ukraine and its dedication to global peace efforts. The sanctions are part of a broader strategy that aligns Australia with NATO allies, including the United Kingdom and the European Union. Since the beginning of the conflict, Australia has imposed over 1,500 sanctions and plans to deploy an E-7A Wedgetail aircraft to Europe by August. This deployment aims to assist in safeguarding aid corridors to Ukraine, bolstering the nation's defense against ongoing threats.
