Taichung: At least four people were confirmed dead, including two tourists from Macau, and 26 others were injured following a gas explosion in central Taiwan on Thursday, the Taipei-based Central News Agency reported, citing authorities.
According to Kuwait News Agency, the construction on the 12th floor of a Shin Kong Mitsukoshi department store in Taichung was suspected to have caused an air explosion. The Taichung Fire Bureau stated that it received a report of the blast at 11:33 a.m. (0333 GMT) and immediately dispatched firefighters and ambulances to the scene.
Meanwhile, the Taichung District Prosecutors Office announced that they have sent personnel to the site to investigate the cause of the incident.
Taichung Mayor Lu Shiow-yen mentioned that the city has established an emergency response center. This center includes personnel from departments like the Fire Bureau and Police Department to manage the rescue efforts.
