At least 15 killed, several injured as heavy rain pounds N. India

At least 15 people were killed and several injured due to torrential rains that pounded several parts of north India on Sunday.

The Press Trust of India said that landslides and other rain-related incidents in north India killed 15 people and normal life affected.

Indian capital New Delhi witnessed torrential rain leading to suspension of road and train services and normal life affected following knee-deep water in roads and residential areas. Delhi Chief Minister Aravind Kejriwal announced closure of schools on Monday as the capital recorded highest rainfall in a single day since July 1982. Due to waterlogging, the Northern Railways cancelled around 17 trains and diverted 12 others.

Most of the deaths were reported from Himachal Pradesh, where the weather authorities have issued red alert of extremely heavy rains in seven districts.

North Indian states of Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh, along with several other western and southern Indian states are also witnessing heavy rainfall in the last few days.
