Doha: The Asian Shotgun Championship 2026 commenced on Monday in Doha, featuring participation from 196 male and female shooters representing 17 countries, including Kuwait. The event will run until January 21. According to Kuwait News Agency, the President of the Asian Shooting Confederation, Sheikh Salman Al-Humoud Al-Sabah, lauded the steadfast support from Qatari leadership towards sports, elevating Qatar as a prominent sports hub globally. He expressed gratitude to the Amir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad, and the President of the Qatar Olympic Committee, Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad, for their unwavering support in hosting both the 2026 Asian Shotgun Championship and the 14th Asian Youth Training and Development Camp. Sheikh Salman Al-Sabah voiced confidence in the Qatari organizing committee to deliver an outstanding edition of the championship. The President of the Qatar Shooting and Archery Federation, Dr. Mishaal Ibrahim Al Nasr, conveyed his delight over the record-breaking participation in the champi onship, highlighting the presence of world and Olympic champions competing at the Lusail Shooting Range. He acknowledged the progress of the Shooting Federation and appreciated the leadership's support, welcoming the elite shooters to Doha for a competition fostering fair play and excellence. The championship kicked off with official practice sessions for the skeet (75 targets) event. The skeet competition for juniors and youth is set for tomorrow, with men's and women's categories following in the skeet (50 targets) event. Qualifying rounds for the skeet event will continue on Wednesday, leading to finals for the junior and youth categories. The subsequent days will see finals for men's, women's, and mixed team skeet events, with the mixed team skeet final scheduled for the end of the week. The trap shooting event begins January 17 with official practice sessions, moving into qualifying rounds and finals over the following days. The championship will wrap up on January 21 with the mixed team trap final.
