ASEAN Unveils New Initiatives for Inclusiveness and Sustainability

Kuala lumpur: The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) launched on Friday three new initiatives aimed at promoting inclusiveness and sustainability in its member states during the preparatory meetings for the 47th ASEAN Summit and related summits scheduled to be held in Kuala Lumpur from October 26 to 28.

According to Kuwait News Agency, this development was announced by Malaysian Foreign Minister Mohammad Hassan during the official launch ceremony. He emphasized that these initiatives represent the "legacy of Malaysia's 2025 presidency" and are intended to benefit the association and its member states in the future. The three initiatives include the establishment of a Center of Excellence for Small and Medium Enterprises focused on Green Transformation, the release of a report titled "ASEAN in the Future: The Science, Technology and Innovation System to 2035 and Beyond," and the publication of the book "ASEAN 2025: Towards an Inclusive and Sustainable Future." Each of these projects is designed to prepare ASEAN for a changing global landscape, reflecting Malaysia's vision to embed inclusiveness and sustainability at the heart of the region's economic and social development.

Hassan highlighted that the Centre of Excellence will provide small and medium enterprises across ASEAN countries with the training and education needed to transition to green and sustainable business models. This initiative aims to protect livelihoods and prepare the region for a low-carbon future by integrating these enterprises into the green economy.

Regarding the book, "ASEAN 2025: Towards an Inclusive and Sustainable Future," the Malaysian Minister noted that it compiles over 30 articles from intellectuals and experts across the region. The book addresses themes such as geopolitics, sustainability, trade, economics, and technology, serving as an intellectual resource and a lasting legacy for ASEAN's future. These initiatives are part of Malaysia's strategic efforts, as the ASEAN Chair for 2025, to reinforce the principles of inclusiveness and sustainability amidst ongoing geopolitical, environmental, and technological challenges. They also aim to position ASEAN as a model of regional cooperation rooted in innovation and shared responsibility.
