ASBU Elects Mohammad Doghaim as Chairman of Standing Sports Committee

Tunis: The Arab States Broadcasting Union (ASBU) announced the election of Mohammad Doghaim as Chairman of the union's Standing Sports Committee and Ahmad Manadi as First Vice Chairman of the Committee during the committee's 27th meeting in Tunis.

According to Kuwait News Agency, the committee reviewed the outcomes of sports exchanges over the past year. The General Administration provided television coverage for a range of sporting events at both Arab and international levels, made available by member organizations. These events included team and individual sports, official and friendly matches, tournaments, and various competitive and exhibition activities.

The Union's statement highlighted the frequency and diversity of activities offered for exchange, including recreational sports such as marine and beach activities like swimming, diving, beach volleyball, and beach soccer. The committee also discussed developments related to the International Olympic Committee's (IOC) offer concerning television broadcast rights for the 2026 Winter Olympic Games in Milan and the 2028 Summer Olympic Games in Los Angeles. The IOC expressed a strong desire to resume cooperation with ASBU, with which it has had a historic partnership for over four decades.

The committee reviewed the Union's participation through its Sports Office in the Monaco Meetings Exhibition in France, which it regularly attends. This participation allows the Union to stay updated on the latest developments in the global sports rights market and seek alternative markets beyond football and traditional sports, especially given the intense competition with private and monopolistic companies in the Arab world.
