Cairo: The 38th session of the Council of Arab Ministers of Transport commenced under the chairmanship of Kuwait, focusing on critical topics such as sustainable transport and cooperation within the logistics sector. The meeting, which started on Monday, brought together various representatives to deliberate on how to enhance the transport sector within the Arab region.
According to Kuwait News Agency, Assistant Secretary-General and Head of the Economic Sector at the Arab League, Ambassador Dr. Ali Al-Malki, emphasized the transport sector's pivotal role in achieving regional integration, enhancing the quality of life, and reducing poverty across the Arab region. He highlighted that this sector employs around 10 percent of the workforce, making it integral to the economic development and job creation strategies of Arab countries.
Dr. Al-Malki pointed out that the transport sector contributes approximately 22 percent to service revenues and 7 percent to the gross domestic product in Arab nations. He discussed the impact of technological advancements, particularly in trucking and logistics, where self-driving trucks have increased efficiency and safety in long-distance transport. The integration of modern technologies has optimized routes and minimized downtime, showcasing the sector's evolution.
Furthermore, the Internet of Things (IoT) continues to transform logistics by providing real-time data that enhances supply chain operations, reduces costs, and improves service delivery. This data-driven approach enables companies to foresee and address potential issues proactively, ensuring a smoother logistics environment.
Ambassador Muhannad Al-Aklouk, Permanent Representative of Palestine to the Arab League, spoke on behalf of the Palestinian Minister of Transport. He emphasized the importance of rebuilding the Gaza Strip and bolstering the resilience of the Palestinian people. Al-Aklouk described these efforts as integral to ending the Israeli occupation and achieving peace and stability in the region.
He underscored the necessity of reopening roads and restoring transport infrastructure to facilitate access to essential services and aid the return of economic and social activities in Gaza. The consensus among transport ministers to prioritize support for Palestine is seen as a crucial step in demonstrating Arab solidarity and commitment to the resilience of the Palestinian people.
Al-Aklouk concluded by endorsing Dr. Noura Al-Mashaan, Kuwait's Minister of Public Works, to lead the 38th session of the Council of Arab Ministers of Transport, expressing confidence in her ability to guide the council towards further achievements. Minister Al-Mashaan heads Kuwait's delegation, which includes Permanent Representative to the Arab League, Ambassador Talal Al-Mutairi.
