Cairo: Arab Parliament Speaker Mohammad Al-Yamahi emphasized the necessity of comprehensive political solutions for resolving the region's crises during a speech at the Arab League headquarters in Cairo. He highlighted the importance of ensuring the unity and sovereignty of nation-states to alleviate the suffering of their people without foreign intervention.
According to Kuwait News Agency, Al-Yamahi delivered his remarks at the closing session of the first session of the fourth legislative term of the Arab Parliament. He noted that the meeting takes place in a challenging Arab and regional context, marked by successive crises that demand unity and a firm stance, prioritizing the welfare of the Arab populace.
Al-Yamahi reiterated that the Palestinian cause remains the central focus for the Arab Parliament. He expressed concern that while global attention is diverted by the Iran-Israel war, the occupation exploits the situation to intensify its actions against Palestinians, targeting civilians in aid lines.
He mentioned a recent visit to Rafah by a large Arab Parliament delegation to observe the conditions of wounded Palestinians. Al-Yamahi urged global and regional entities to provide immediate humanitarian assistance to prevent starvation among Palestinians. He appealed to international institutions, particularly the UN Security Council, to halt the ongoing violence and restore Palestinians' rights to life and dignity.
Addressing regional developments, Al-Yamahi warned that military actions by the occupation would only escalate tensions and destruction. He condemned Israeli attacks on Iran and criticized Iran's aggression towards Qatar, emphasizing that defending against occupation should not compromise any Arab state's sovereignty.
Al-Yamahi expressed optimism for a permanent ceasefire as a step toward regional stability, hoping it would refocus international attention on the Palestinian plight. He concluded by highlighting the achievements of the session, which included strategic decisions and initiatives by the Arab Parliament to address regional challenges.
