Arab League’s Technical Committee on Intellectual Property Convenes 16th Meeting with Kuwait’s Participation

Cairo: The Arab League's Technical Committee on Intellectual Property (TCIP) launched its 16th meeting on Sunday with Kuwait taking part, focusing on advancing intellectual property systems across Arab countries and strengthening regional coordination in this field.

According to Kuwait News Agency, speaking at the opening session, Arab League Director of the Legal Affairs Department Dr. Maha Bakhit affirmed the league's commitment to supporting and developing intellectual property frameworks. Bakhit noted that recent months have shown significant progress in Arab intellectual property. The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and international indicators have highlighted that several Arab states have improved their global innovation rankings, increased registrations for patents and trademarks, and placed a greater focus on copyright and the creative industries.

Bakhit welcomed the recent Arab accessions to WIPO treaties, like the Madrid Protocol, describing it as a great commitment to integrating into the global protection system and facilitating innovators' access to international markets. She added that the League, in cooperation with national IP offices, is working to support the inclusion of new languages within international IP systems to facilitate access and reduce costs.

She explained that the meeting agenda includes several key items, notably the cooperation agreement on the Arab Electronic IP Register project, promoting multilingualism, and developing a practical guide on protecting intellectual property rights in the digital environment. Bakhit praised the efforts of national IP offices in Arab countries and their role in shaping unified Arab positions at international forums, expressing hope that the meeting will produce practical recommendations that boost innovation and creativity in the Arab world.

Kuwait is represented at the meeting by the Manager of the Copyright Department at Kuwait National Library, Athari Alhayef.
