Beirut: Arab League's Secretary General Ahmad Aboul-Gheit welcomed on Friday the Lebanese government's plan to place weapons under the state's control, considering it a crucial step toward the stability of Lebanon.
According to Kuwait News Agency, Aboul-Gheit emphasized that state control of all weapons is a fundamental principle of sovereignty that must not be violated under any circumstances. He expressed hope that the government's decision would be met with cooperation and support from all Lebanese citizens who prioritize the nation's stability and sovereignty.
Aboul-Gheit also highlighted the necessity for influential forces within the international community to exert pressure on Israeli forces to withdraw from Lebanon's territories and cease bombing operations within the country. He stressed that the accurate and comprehensive implementation of the ceasefire agreement, signed in November, is vital for restoring peace across all regions of Lebanon.
