Arab League Unifies Efforts to Support Independent Palestinian State

Cairo: The Arab League affirmed unifying efforts of member-states to support the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with Jerusalem as the capital. The remarks came in a statement of the League's General Secretariat, on the sidelines of celebrating its 80th anniversary of establishment.

According to Kuwait News Agency, the League noted that it plays significant roles to resolve key issues, adding that it had a role in ending colonization in a number of Arab countries. The statement also underlined the League's efforts to defend the Palestinian cause, especially in the recent genocide against Gaza.

It called for investing in youth through training programs and proper education, as key to achieve sustainable development in Arab societies. Meanwhile, the League said it has many economic achievements, including launching the Arab free trade zone in 2005 and the joint Arab market for electricity in 2024.

The League prioritizes enabling women to play a role in building societies, children care, developing education and sports, and preserving the Arabic language and culture, the statement said. The Arab League, established in 1945, is the oldest regional organization and is older than the United Nations (UN). It was established to unify Arab countries in the face of colonization and political challenges.
