Baghdad: The Arab League announced on Thursday the dispatch of a mission to Iraq to observe the upcoming parliamentary elections scheduled next Tuesday, in response to an invitation from the Iraqi Independent High Electoral Commission.
According to Kuwait News Agency, the mission will be headed by Assistant Secretary-General Ambassador Dr. Faeed Mustafa and will include a number of staff members from the General Secretariat representing five Arab nationalities. The mission plans to issue a preliminary statement after completing the observation process. A final report containing detailed observations and relevant recommendations will be submitted to Iraqi authorities. The League expressed its hope that the elections would be conducted in safe and transparent conditions, reflecting the free will of the Iraqi people.
