Cairo: Arab League Secretary-General Ahmad Abul-Gheit on Sunday emphasized Britain's pivotal role in promoting peace initiatives in the region, specifically calling for the full implementation of the Gaza ceasefire. He stressed the importance of ensuring unimpeded humanitarian aid entry and reconstruction efforts.

According to Kuwait News Agency, this was discussed during Abul-Gheit's meeting with UK Minister for the Middle East and North Africa, Hamish Falconer. The meeting aimed to support international efforts to sustain the ceasefire and progress toward the "20-point plan" for Gaza.

Abul-Gheit highlighted the necessity of unifying Palestinian institutions and strengthening national partnerships in anticipation of a political phase that would lead to the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital.

The statement from the Arab League also quoted the British minister, who reaffirmed his country's commitment to enhancing cooperation with Arab states. He emphasized the importance of joint coordination to tackle regional challenges.

Furthermore, the two leaders discussed the situation in Sudan, underlining the urgency of achieving a comprehensive ceasefire. They also stressed the need to facilitate humanitarian aid access and ensure the preservation of Sudan's unity and stability.
