Cairo: Arab League Secretary-General Ahmad Aboul Gheit welcomed Wednesday the implementation of the ceasefire agreement between Lebanon and Israel. In a statement, Aboul Gheit described the agreement as an important step towards calming tensions and preventing further bloodshed. He emphasized that the ceasefire must be fully and carefully implemented to allow Lebanon to recover as quickly as possible. According to Kuwait News Agency, Aboul Gheit highlighted the immense suffering of the Lebanese people during the conflict, which claimed thousands of civilian lives and caused extensive damage to infrastructure. He also noted that the agreement presents a vital opportunity for Lebanon to catch its breath and focus on its internal political situation, particularly concerning the election of a new president after a vacancy of more than two years. The Arab League chief stressed the need for Israel to complete its withdrawal from all Lebanese territories as soon as possible, paving the way for the return of displa ced persons to their homes. Aboul Gheit praised the efforts of the mediators in securing the agreement, particularly the United States, while stressing the importance of intensifying efforts to reach a ceasefire agreement in Gaza at the earliest opportunity.
