Arab League regrets Algeria move to cut Morocco ties

CAIRO, The Arab League said on Tuesday it deeply regrets the state of relations between Algeria and Morocco, after the latter’s decision to sever its diplomatic relations with its North African neighbour.

The Arab bloc’s Secretary General Ahmed Aboulgheit called on the two countries to exercise “restraint and avoid further escalation.” In a statement, he said the two are “major countries” in the Arab region, pinning hope that their relations would be restored to a minimum level in a way that preserves their own and the region’s stability and mutual interests.
