Doha: Assistant Secretary General and Head of the Media and Communication Sector at the Arab League, Ambassador Ahmad Khattabi, affirmed on Sunday that the Emergency Arab-Islamic Summit, to be held tomorrow in Doha, represents a message of solidarity to stop Israeli occupation aggression.
According to Kuwait News Agency, Khattabi stated that the summit comes at a time when Arab and Islamic public opinion is seeking a firm stance against the aggression, amidst a favorable international context and growing support during the 80th session of the UN General Assembly. He highlighted that current developments in the Middle East, especially positions expressed before the UN General Assembly supporting the two-state solution, and the Security Council meeting following the Israeli occupation attack on Qatar, indicate the occupation's increasing international isolation.
Khattabi further noted that after almost two years of war on Gaza and its catastrophic consequences, the world has come to realize the realities that the Israeli occupation's false narrative attempted to conceal, particularly in the aftermath of the October 7 events. This realization has rendered the UN General Assembly vote politically and morally symbolic. He stressed that the overwhelming support for this resolution, welcomed by the Arab League, is a diplomatic gain of deep significance and a practical step by the international community toward ending the war in Gaza and related atrocities.
He emphasized that after eight decades of Palestinian suffering and attempts to erase their national identity, which reached unprecedented levels during the current catastrophe in Gaza, decisive action to establish an independent Palestinian state is imperative. Khattabi called for a sustainable solution based on the two-state framework, while steering clear of extremist ideologies, expansionist ambitions, and outdated myths that ignore international laws, norms, and historical facts.
Khattabi warned that Gaza, now a graveyard for thousands of innocent civilians, should not also become a graveyard for international law, whose credibility is at stake because of this war. He underlined that international support for Qatar reflects genuine awareness of the seriousness of the blatant attack on its sovereignty and the undermining of its respected humanitarian and mediation role, which has strengthened its international standing.
He also noted that Qatar, alongside Egypt and the United States, has worked to facilitate prisoner exchange operations in line with international humanitarian law, exerting enormous diplomatic efforts during a devastating war that destroyed infrastructure and caused thousands of casualties.
