Arab League Condemns Israeli Minister’s Storming of UNRWA Headquarters

Jerusalem: The General Secretariat of the Arab League denounced the aggressive actions of the Israeli minister of national security in the occupation government, who forcibly entered the UNRWA headquarters in Jerusalem's Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood. The minister oversaw the demolition of structures within the compound and the removal of the UN flag, which was replaced with the Israeli flag.

According to Saudi Press Agency, the general secretariat emphasized in a statement that the escalating attacks on UNRWA are part of Israel's broader plan to dismantle the agency, halt its operations in the occupied Palestinian territories, and negate the rights of Palestinian refugees to return and obtain compensation.

The general secretariat underscored its monitoring of the alarming actions by the occupation in the Palestinian territories and against UNRWA. It noted that continuous international inaction regarding the Israeli Knesset's repeated attempts to enact illegal laws terminating UNRWA's operations and seizing its facilities has encouraged the occupying government to implement this perilous plan, which is part of a wider strategy to forcibly displace the Palestinian people.

Moreover, the general secretariat urged the international community and relevant organizations to act promptly in pressuring Israel, moving beyond verbal condemnation to tangible measures such as sanctions. Such actions are necessary to stop these attacks and ensure that UNRWA can continue carrying out its UN mandate, consistent with the International Court of Justice's advisory opinion on Israel's responsibilities toward UN agencies, including UNRWA.
