Arab League: Ceasefire in Lebanon, UNSC 1701 resolution implementation “urgent” matters

The Arab League called, Thursday, for an urgent ceasefire in Lebanon, which was under a brutal attack from the Israeli occupation, adding that it was important to fully implementing UNSC resolution 1701 that resolved the 2006 war on Lebanon. This came in a statement by Assistant Secretary of the Arab League Ambassador Hussam Zaki to the Paris international conference in support of Lebanon. The Arab official insisted that implementation of UNSC resolution 1701 would put an end to the Israeli occupation brutal assault on Lebanon and it would protect its sovereignty. A ceasefire would allow the entry and distribution of humanitarian aid in addition to much-needed financial assistance, he indicated, noting that there was a need to support the Lebanese army during his turbulent period. Zaki pointed out that the crime carried out by the Israeli aggressors were clear as daylight, affirming that they went against all international humanitarian laws and norms. Zaki stressed the need for all diplomatic tools to e nd the cycle of deaths and destruction committed by the Israeli war machine, which not only threatened the region but the world. He called on Lebanon to resolve its political dispute from with via choosing a President according to the constitution and prevent the country from further slipping into what already seemed like a chaotic situation. Zaki took the chance to commend UNIFIL for its role in Lebanon, stressing the need to protect its assets, staff, and troops. Source: Kuwait News Agency
