Arab League calls for protecting Palestinian children

The Arab League on Sunday urged the international community to take serious action for halting Israelis’ abuse of Palestinian children.

The appeal was made by Ambassador Haifaa Abu-Ghazala, the Assistant Secretary General for Social Affairs, in a statement during inauguration of the “the regional conference on grave violations against children in armed struggles,” held via visual technology.

Abu Ghazala affirmed necessity to bring Israeli officials responsible for breaching children’s rights to account, emphasizing that “this can only be attained with a solid international will and integrated efforts to prevent recurrence of more breaches.” She has affirmed significance of holding the convention at the current time where the Arab world is witnessing conflicts and humanitarian crises, along with catastrophes afflicting the children, alluding in particularly to mounting cases of child labor, coercive marriages at an early age, violence and unethical exploitation of the youngsters.

“We are quite aware that we are facing an enormous responsibility for protecting our children and securing a better future for them and this will require unifying our efforts as governments and regional and international organization sand other stakeholders in this respect,” She said.

Abu-Ghazala has also opined that activating relevant legislations and laws is a main step for protecting the children from violence.

She concluded by expressing hope that she and her colleagues would cap the gathering with a task plan to protect children suffering from dire conditions in conflicts.
