Arab League Calls for Increased Support for Palestinian Media

Cairo: The Arab League on Sunday called on Arab and international mass media to throw much weight behind Palestinian media, which has been seriously damaged by the Israeli occupation aggression on the Gaza Strip.

According to Kuwait News Agency, this call to action was articulated by the Arab League's Assistant Secretary General for Media and Communications, Ambassador Ahmad Khatabi. The announcement was made during a plenary session on Gaza, part of the third edition of Egypt's Media Forum 2025. Khatabi emphasized the critical need for support to Palestinian media, which has been severely impacted by what he described as an "unequal war" on Palestinian territories. He highlighted the tragic loss of life among journalists and media personnel due to the ongoing aggression.

Khatabi also referenced a recent decision by the Council of Arab Information Ministers to observe May 11 annually as a day of international solidarity with Palestinian media. This decision underscores the urgency of the situation and the need for continued support and awareness.

Furthermore, Khatabi noted the role of pan-Arab coordination, particularly among regional parties, in successfully preventing the forced displacement of Palestinians from Gaza. This coordination exemplifies the importance of collaboration at various levels to address and mitigate the challenges faced by Palestinian media.

Egypt's Media Forum 2025, which began in Cairo on Saturday, has gathered representatives from Egyptian, Arab, and international media organizations. The forum aims to explore the future of media-making amid the rapid advancements in technology and artificial intelligence.
