Arab League Calls for Continued Support for UN Palestinian Aid Agency

Cairo: The Arab League on Sunday called on the international community to bolster support for the UN agency aiding the Palestinians, underscoring the necessity of renewing the agency's mandate beyond September of this year to ensure its continued operation.

According to Kuwait News Agency, Dr. Saeed Abuali, head of the Arab League's Palestinian and other occupied Arab lands department, emphasized the international obligation to support the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA). During a pan-Arab meeting in Cairo, he highlighted the agency's critical role in aiding Palestinians.

Dr. Abuali pointed out that UNRWA is currently grappling with a severe financial crisis, stressing the importance of providing sufficient assistance, including the renewal of its mandate. He expressed concern over the ongoing acts of "genocide and ethnic cleansing" allegedly committed by Israeli forces in the Gaza Strip and described the situation in the West Bank as equally troubling due to Israeli aggression.

The meeting gathered supervisors overseeing Palestinian affairs across various Arab states, aiming to consolidate support for Palestinians during these challenging times.
