Cairo: The Arab League's Assistant Secretary-General and Head of the Media and Communication Sector, Ahmad Khattabi, expressed the League's full solidarity with Palestinian media as the Israeli occupation continues its aggression.
According to Kuwait News Agency, Khattabi, in a statement marking the International Day of Solidarity with Palestinian Media, highlighted that 212 journalists have been killed as of the end of April 2025, with at least 400 others injured. These statistics underscore the severe impact on journalists during conflict, particularly during the war on Gaza, where journalists faced dangerous conditions similar to those endured by civilians amidst bombing, blockade, and starvation.
Khattabi emphasized the Arab League's condemnation of Israel's ongoing restrictions on Palestinian media, citing violations of International law. He specifically referred to Article 79 of the Geneva Conventions, which is designed to protect journalists operating in conflict zones.
The Arab League's commemoration of the International Day of Solidarity with Palestinian Media on May 11 aligns with a decision by the Council of Arab Information Ministers during its 52nd session in Cairo in September 2022.
