Algiers: Algeria and Somalia have signed three memoranda of understanding (MoUs) to bolster their bilateral cooperation, focusing on the establishment of a joint government committee, a political consultation mechanism, and collaboration in diplomatic training. The agreements were formalized by Algerian Foreign Minister Ahmad Attaf and Somali Foreign Minister Abdisalam Abdi Ali during a meeting in Algiers, as announced by the Algerian Foreign Ministry.
According to Kuwait News Agency, the two ministers engaged in extensive discussions aimed at strengthening bilateral relations and improving coordination on regional and international matters of mutual interest. The ministry highlighted the meeting as a chance to evaluate Somalia's notable progress in rebuilding its national institutions. Furthermore, Algeria reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Somalia's leadership in enhancing security, stability, and development.
Both parties expressed their intention to enhance the institutional cooperation framework and enrich the legal basis of their relations, as demonstrated by the signing of the three MoUs. They also vowed to maintain close coordination during their current terms on the UN Security Council to advance Arab causes, particularly the Palestinian issue, promote African priorities across various sectors, and support development and stability in the Horn of Africa and Sahel regions.
