ALECSO Urges Comprehensive Strategy for ASD Integration in Arab Education

Kuwait city: The education expert at the Arab League of Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (ALECSO), Dr. Abdullah Al-Majidel, called for adopting a comprehensive approach to integrating children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) in the Arab world. This call to action was made during the opening of a study day focused on the integration of children with autism in the region, aimed at incorporating them into educational curricula and developing practical solutions to safeguard their rights.

According to Kuwait News Agency, the event saw participation from specialists in education, health, and social affairs from various Arab countries. Dr. Al-Majidel emphasized the importance of addressing the needs of children with ASD, highlighting the significant increase in the number of affected children globally. He pointed out that educational integration can play a vital role in enhancing the behavioral and social skills of these children.

The concept of autism, first introduced in 1911 by scientist Eugen Bleuler, is recognized as a complex developmental disability that manifests before the age of three. It is characterized by a disorder in brain function, leading to impaired development of language, social, and intellectual abilities.
