Al-Maliki discusses with the delegation of the KDP developments and the relationship between the center and the region

The Secretary-General of the Islamic Dawa Party, Nuri al-Maliki, received in his office on Tuesday evening the delegation of the Kurdistan Democratic Party headed by Fadhel Mirani, in the presence of members of the political bureaus of the Islamic Dawa Party and the Kurdistan Democratic Party.

The meeting discussed, according to a statement by al-Maliki’s office, developments in the political situation in the country, the relationship between the center and the region, the upcoming federal local elections, as well as elections in the region.

The statement added: “The Secretary-General of the Islamic Dawa Party was informed of a number of observations made by the delegation of the Kurdistan Democratic Party regarding the budget and a number of laws.

Al-Maliki emphasized justice among Iraqis and the need to provide decent livelihoods for all, and to resolve issues in a patriotic and fraternal spirit within the framework of understanding under the roof of the constitution and commitment to political consensus, pointing to the strength of the relationship between the coordination framework and its forces with the Kurdistan region.

For his part, Mirani stressed the importance of finding equitable solutions that would end the existing problems between Baghdad and Erbil, especially with regard to the entitlements of the region from the federal budget, and the importance of holding elections for the Parliament of the Kurdistan Region by creating the necessary atmosphere for them to enjoy the support of the actors, and enhance political and security stability in the region and achieve the aspirations of the citizens there,” praising al-Maliki’s stances and the historical relations between the two parties and supporting ways of dialogue in resolving differences between the region and the federal government.
