Al-ahmadi: Al-Ahmadi Governor Sheikh Hamoud Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah has emphasized the importance of restoring the old Al-Ahmadi Market and Al-Ahmadi Cinema as part of efforts to preserve Kuwait's cultural heritage. This initiative, supported by the Council of Ministers and the Ministers of Information and Oil, reflects the country's commitment to maintaining its cultural identity.
According to Kuwait News Agency, the restoration project is the result of a supervision agreement between the Kuwait Oil Company (KOC) and the National Council for Culture, Arts and Letters (NCCAL), following Cabinet Resolution No. (927) issued on July 8, 2025. Sheikh Hamoud Al-Sabah highlighted the critical role of this project in showcasing Kuwait's dedication to its heritage.
KOC's CEO, Ahmad Al-Aidan, stated that the company is participating in the project as part of its national and social responsibility to preserve Kuwaiti heritage and promote sustainable development. The project will be executed over four years in phases, aiming to elevate Kuwait's global reputation.
Dr. Mohammad Al-Jassar, Secretary-General of NCCAL, described the restoration of the old Al-Ahmadi Market and Al-Ahmadi Cinema as significant for the governorate. He mentioned that partial operations of some buildings will commence next year, with subsequent stages leading to full and sustainable operation. The project underscores Kuwait's commitment to its architectural heritage and aims to enhance Al-Ahmadi's cultural status, supporting its nomination for the UNESCO World Heritage List.
Engineer Batool Ashour, Project Manager at the Al-Ahmadi Cultural Platform, noted that the project documents a pivotal phase in creating a comprehensive cultural, social, and heritage city. She emphasized collaboration with experts and official institutions, and the importance of evaluating the historical value of buildings. The Council has engaged with the UN and UNESCO to nominate Al-Ahmadi for its historical significance, with representatives having already visited the city.
