AIPU Criticizes Israeli Occupation’s Sovereignty Claim Over West Bank and Jordan Valley

Kuwait city: The Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union (AIPU) has issued a strong condemnation of the Israeli occupation's decision to assert "sovereignty" over the occupied West Bank and Jordan Valley, labeling it a blatant violation of international law and international resolutions.

According to Kuwait News Agency, the statement, signed by Union President Ibrahim Boughali, emphasized that the mere announcement of such intentions represents a grave breach of international law and a dismissal of legitimate international resolutions, particularly highlighting UN Security Council Resolution 2334. This resolution demands an immediate and complete cessation of all settlement activities in the occupied Palestinian territories, including East Jerusalem, to prevent alterations to the region's demographic and geographic composition.

The Union categorically rejected any form of imposed Israeli sovereignty over Palestinian land, describing such actions as illegal and illegitimate. It warned that these violations by the occupation pose a significant threat to regional stability and seriously undermine the prospects of implementing a two-state solution.

Reaffirming its stance, the Union urged the international community to uphold their legal and moral responsibilities by intensifying solidarity with the Palestinian cause. It also called for immediate international action to compel the Israeli occupation to cease its aggression on the Gaza Strip, stop escalating violence in the occupied West Bank, and ensure protection for the Palestinian people while supporting their legitimate right to establish an independent state.
