African Union Rejects Palestinians’ Displacement, Foreign Interference in Sudan

Addis ababa: Concluding the 39th ordinary session of its Assembly on Sunday, the African Union voiced its rejection of forced displacement of Palestinian people from its land toward Egypt and Jordan.

According to Kuwait News Agency, in a final communique issued at the end of the session, the conferees warned against the deterioration of the humanitarian situation in Gaza due to the long-standing siege imposed by the Israeli occupation forces on the Strip. The Israeli occupation prevents the entry of humanitarian aid into the Strip, the final communique said, affirming full solidarity with Palestinian people and their right to self-determination and ending the occupation.

The conferees also called for granting Palestine full membership in the UN, in line with the desire of the majority of the international community, it noted. Meanwhile, the communique further condemned foreign interference into Sudan's affairs as the country has been engulfed in a war for three years, leaving many deaths and injuries of civilians and military people.

As a result of the war in Sudan, over 14 million people have been internally displaced, making it the largest displacement crisis in the world. It demanded a humanitarian truce in Sudan to achieve a full ceasefire that began in April 2023 and hold a complete Sudanese dialogue. It also expressed condemnation of Israeli occupation's unilateral recognition of 'Somaliland', calling for the immediate withdrawal of this step.

The summit kicked off in Addis Ababa on Saturday titled 'ensuring supplying water and safe sewage systems to achieve the goals of the 2063 agenda'. Among the participants were UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres, Palestinian Prime Minister Mohammad Moustafa who represented President Mahmoud Abbas, along with Italy's Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.
