AfDB Approves $116 Million Loan for Morocco Agriculture Program

Rabat: The African Development Bank (AfDB) Board of Directors has approved a USD 116 million loan for Morocco to launch a comprehensive agriculture support program focused on empowering women and young people. The initiative aims to generate sustainable economic opportunities for women and youth, boost food security, and strengthen the resilience of small-scale farming against climate change. According to Kuwait News Agency, the program will also facilitate the deployment of new agricultural production and service infrastructure. This will help integrate women into local value chains, enhance their skills, and increase their productivity. AfDB's country manager for Morocco, Achraf Tarsim, emphasized that women with ambitions to succeed in agriculture are a priority for the program. The initiative aligns with Morocco's "Generation Green" strategy for 2020-2030. This strategy focuses on supporting sustainable development in agriculture and empowering women and youth. Over the past 50 years, AfDB has mobilized nearly £15 billion to finance more than 150 high-impact projects in strategic sectors, including transport, water, energy, agriculture, social protection, governance, and finance.
