Abu dhabi: Abu Dhabi International Petroleum Exhibition and Conference (ADIPEC) 2025 commenced on Monday under the theme “Intelligent Energy for Accelerated Progress,” attracting global energy leaders, policymakers, and experts.
According to Kuwait News Agency, UAE Industry and Advanced Technology Minister and Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Dr. Sultan Al-Jaber emphasized in his keynote speech the necessity of reliable, affordable power for artificial intelligence (AI). He highlighted the ongoing reliance on oil and gas for electricity, noting that gas supplies over a quarter of the demand for data centers. He cautioned that shortages in gas turbines are contributing to increased power prices and stressed the need for infrastructure expansion through 2050.
Dr. Al-Jaber portrayed energy as a new growth and competitiveness engine driven by innovation and low-emissions solutions. He urged the development of policies that unlock capital from existing assets, mitigate risk, and direct investment towards suitable projects.
Energy Minister Suhail Al-Mazroui also addressed the conference, outlining the UAE’s balanced approach to maintaining energy security while accelerating the transition to clean energy. He stated that the UAE is investing AED 189 billion (USD 51.5 billion) in infrastructure and clean energy initiatives to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050. The country currently boasts 12.4 gigawatts of clean power, accounting for over 30 percent of its electricity, including three large single-site solar plants, the fully operational Barakah Nuclear Power Plant, and the world’s largest solar plus storage project for consistent clean electricity.
Al-Mazroui added that regulations are being updated to enhance flexibility, promote long-term investment, and increase competitiveness. ADIPEC 2025 will run for four days, featuring participation from 45 ministers, 250 CEOs, and senior leaders from various sectors including industry, finance, innovation, and technology.
