Acting Finance Minister Engages with World Bank VP on Strengthening Regional Ties

Kuwait city: Acting Minister of Finance and Minister of State for Economic Affairs and Investment, Dr. Sabeeh Al-Mukhaizeem, recently held a meeting with the World Bank Vice President for the Middle East and North Africa (MENA), Ousmane Dione. During the discussion, Dr. Al-Mukhaizeem underscored the significance of bolstering relations with the World Bank's local office in Kuwait, especially after the appointment of a new director.

According to Kuwait News Agency, Dr. Al-Mukhaizeem emphasized the need for the newly appointed director to possess the essential expertise, knowledge, and adaptability to engage effectively with local entities. This is to ensure that the office's presence provides substantial added value. He also highlighted the importance of organizing an early meeting with the new director to establish clear cooperation priorities between Kuwait and the World Bank.

Dione acknowledged Kuwait's recent completion of its contribution to the general and selective capital increase of the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD), appreciating Kuwait's commitment to its international obligations and support for the World Bank's sustainable development efforts.

Both parties reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing cooperation between Kuwait and the World Bank, particularly in the sectors of education, health, energy, and water. The meeting saw the attendance of key figures, including Abdulaziz Al-Mulla, Executive Director at the World Bank Group (WBG), Faisal Al-Muzaini, Director of Public Debt Management, Saad Al-Rashidi, Director of International Economic Cooperation Department, and Ahmad Al-Omran, Acting Director of Macroeconomics and Fiscal Policy and Director of Financial Planning and Follow-up Department.

The dialogue occurred on the sidelines of Kuwait's participation in the Annual Meetings of the Boards of Governors of the World Bank Group and the International Monetary Fund (IMF), which took place in Washington from October 13 to 18, 2025.
